Tips when you have a dental emergency

Do you have a dental emergency?

Here are some of the things you should consider during a dental emergency. They include some simple steps you can take to minimize pain before visiting our office for your emergency care. During your visit, we’ll quickly diagnose the problem, relieve any discomfort, and provide treatment after walking you through your options.

    • Bitten Lip or Tongue – Clean the area. Apply an ice pack to reduce swelling. If the bleeding doesn’t stop, get help right away.
    • Broken Jaw – Apply a cold compress to limit swelling and then get help immediately.
    • Broken Tooth – Save any pieces of the broken tooth. Rinse your mouth with warm water. Apply a cold compress to the area to decrease swelling and pain.
    • Dental Abscess – If you have a painful, pimple-like swelling on your gums, rinse with salt water and get help immediately. Dental abscesses can lead to infections that are more serious if not treated promptly.
    • Knocked Out Tooth – Gently rinse off the knocked out tooth without removing any attached tissue. If possible, hold the tooth in place in the socket. Otherwise, put the tooth in a glass of milk.
    • Object Stuck in Teeth – Try to dislodge the object gently with dental floss.
    • Toothache – Rinse your mouth with warm water. Use dental floss to make sure there’s no food or other debris causing the pain.
